Sons of Confederate Veterans
General Nathan Bedford Forrest
Camp 1649
Meridian, Mississippi

"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish."

Lieutenant General Stephen Dill Lee
April 25, 1906

The Sons of Confederate Veterans believe and declare an unquestioned loyalty to the Constitution of the United States of America, largely written and expounded by Southern men with great deliberation, thought and fortitude. Our Constitution represents the very Magna Carta of our liberties and the restraints our government must abide by to ensure the pursuit of happiness and liberty which our citizenry rightfully expects and deserves.

We hold our Confederate ancestors in high regard and esteem as we seek to honor their sacrifice both on and off the field of battle. It is for us to instill into our descendants a devotion to, and reverence for, the principles represented by the Confederate States of America, to the honor, glory and memory of our fathers who fought in that cause.

Our ancestors were neither gods nor supermen but rather ordinary men faced with extraordinary circumstance. They owned no slaves, had little money and possessed little interest in the politics of the day. Many were poor, uneducated, yet noble and heroic. Others were graduates of the most prestigious colleges, universities and academies on earth. They were destined to become the greatest leaders this country has ever produced. These men and women loved the South and their homeland and they fought to keep it secure. Most of our "boys" died the way they lived...with pride and determination and a love of the land we call DIXIE.

Respectfully,

Sons of Confederate Veterans
